- History
“McDonald’s is the largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants in the world. There was about 32,000 restaurants all over the world. Indeed, you would probably be hard pushed to find a country that does not have a McDonald’s restaurant. The start was in the first half of the 20th Century by two brothers; Richard and Maurice McDonald.
The two brothers opened their first restaurant in 1940 in San Bernardino, California with McDonald’s Barbecue restaurant. They had a false start, they were both the kind of American restaurant where cars park around a central hub (where the food is prepared) and it is delivered to the waiting customers by 'car hops'.
In 1948 problems interfered and the brothers became disaffected, the style of restaurant, the pressures of full menu, and the hassle of managing staff. To scale down the operation; they developed an idea of ‘assembly line’ whereby to reduce menu –contain only hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries and drink- which could be faster and cheaper. And try to attracted more customers. In December 12, 1948 the new revamped McDonald’s Restaurant opened, and Richard McDonalds cooked the first McDonald’s Hamburger.
After next few years, McDonald’s restaurant became strength more and more, they design logo which called ‘Speedee’’ and it was the first logo of McDonald’s. Speedee was a man with a chef's hat on top of a hamburger shaped head. He was replaced by Ronald McDonald in 1967. Also they had a slender yellow arch built at each end of the building, looping over it but not yet joined together to make the now famous ‘M’”

- Consumer/Customer base:
The customer base is the group of customers and/or consumers that a business serves. In the most situations, a large part of this group is made up of repeat customers with a high ratio of purchase over time. These customers are the main source of consumer spending. In many cases, the customer base is considered the business's target market, where customer behaviors are well understood through market research or past experience. All actions the company takes would be through consideration of its customer base.
You mention that during its darkest years McDonald's failed to improve its brand experience by ignoring three things: renovation, innovation and marketing. By renovation, we mean the continuous improvement of product and service quality. The choice is clear—continuous improvement or continuous decay. During the years preceding 2002, McDonald’s focused on cost reduction. Innovation is also an imperative. But innovation must be based not on marketing trial and error. Marketing is also a growth driver. Effective marketing is essential for enduring profitable growth.
Last week McDonald’s announced another strong sales performance for US stores in the 4th quarter. This marks a year where McDonald’s posted healthy same store sales growth consistently throughout the year while the competition struggled. At the heart of their success was a loyal customer base. Thirty percent of the US population is a loyal McDonald’s customer. Loyal McDonald’s customers go to McDonald’s for lunch/dinner more than 30 times a year… three times the rate of the non-loyal customer
A strong base of loyal customers provided McDonald’s with a resilient customer base that stayed with them during rough economic conditions. With such a large and frequent loyal customer base, McDonald’s is always an option.
